Places // Cadillac Ranch -- Amarillo, TX

For the past few weeks, Frank the gnome has been staying with us. He's been travelling the good ole US of A for a little more than a year now, and we anxiously awaited his arrival. Before he got here, we already had a few places to take him planned out. Our first stop was Cadillac Ranch. Amarillo is known for Cadillac Ranch -- ten Cadillac's buried nose down in a row. People come from all over the world to see them and spray paint their names on the cars. It's sort of like a right of passage.

It was quite a walk, so Frank hitched a ride with Arlo

I know some of you are thinking "Seriously? This is a thing?" But it is. It so is.

Even Charlie Brown made an appearance!

Frank persuaded me to include this photo partly for the man bending over. You're welcome.

Frank was a little woozy after being in a wheel of paint fumes, so he insisted on being carried around for the rest of our venture.

Frank is getting stolen!

Oh. Wait. He's just getting some assistance with keeping his balance. He's still a little woozy, ya know.
(If you're interested in what that text at the top says -- "Come to the dark side. We have cookies. Come to the dark side. Are you surprised we lied about the cookies?")

Frank's weight almost bent this Cadillac in half. Phew.

This is years and years of spray paint on top of each other. Pretty crazy looking.

Before we left, Frank wanted to get in on the painting action, but he refused to let go of his water can.

I don't know the whole story behind this sign, but I know it's been there for at least ten years. Frank didn't want to explore that road.

We meant to snag some photos of Frank with some of the famous Stanley Marsh signs, but we didn't ever find the time. Here are a few of my favorites:

For more Amarillo goodness, check out Jenny's Yellow City series, the famous "Legs" sculpture (another Stanley Marsh contribution), and a post from the archives of an abandoned gas plant (that's since been destroyed!)
